THE APHORISM, “As man thinks in the heart, so is he,” not only embraces the wholeness of a man’s being, but is so all-encompassing that it reaches into every state and circumstance of his life. A man is the point for
point, what he thinks, because the character is the full sum of all his thoughts.
Just as the plant grows from seed, and could not be without it, so every action of man flourishes from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not appear without them. This applies equally to those actions that are called “spontaneous” and “unintentional”, as well as to those that are executed with slow and careful decision.
Action is the flower-fruit of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruits;
thus man puts into the barn the sweet and bitter blessings of his agricultural economy.
“Thought in mind has made us,
What we are of thought is engraved and constructed.
If a man’s mind has bad thoughts,
the pain comes to him as the wheel comes back to the bull….

In purity of thought, joy accompanies it
Like its own shadow; of course.
